The French carmaker has reassured its commitment towards “ Make in India” campaign. Mr. Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and MD of Renault India Operations, shared his perspective on KWID with Mr.Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, at a time when “Make in India” week is ongoing in Mumbai. He also presented a hand-made model of Renault KWID to him as a testament to the ‘Make in India’ campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sawhney said, “It was a proud moment for Renault in India, as the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited the Renault arena to witness ‘Renault KWID’ a successful testament to the Government’s thrust to ‘Make in India’. We shared our strategy and efforts of launching a world-class product by also leveraging Indian talent along with Global. If the country’s economy has to grow, the manufacturing sector has to grow and the automobile industry is one of the major drivers of this sector. We have great confidence that the industry is going to bounce back stronger, and that the ‘Make in India’ campaign will play a key role in growing the economy.”
Renault has highly localised the production of its vehicles. Approximately 98% of the content for KWID is domestic and the carmaker is mulling over to increase the present 70% for Duster to 80%. Renault has largely expanded in India in recent times. The company had 14 sales and service services in 2011 and now it boasts of 205 facilities. The automaker is deliberating to export its India manufactured KWIDs to Brazil. If all works as per the plan, the exports are likely to start from as early as next month. This will further help in creating a positive picture of Indian manufacturing facilities all across the world.
