    Verdict

For the price that it commands, it will be unfair to put a finger on this variant of the Triber. It covers the basics but packs in all the practical seating that’ s bundled up with even the top-spec Triber. However, that’s not the only point that needs to be factored in while buying a car. It misses out on some convenience features and an audio system that you can get in the higher variants. Moreover, the premium to pay isn’t sky-high and it also undercuts mid-size hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Ford Figo.

This variant is for those who are already stretching their budget from a small car to the more accommodating Triber and can’t go any further. But if you want better safety and feel-good features, keep on reading.

Comfort &  Convenience: Tilt steering, assist grips and rear AC with vents for 2nd and 3rd row and blower control, cooled storage in the central console.

Audio: Audio system with Bluetooth, USB and 2 front speakers.

Safety: Speed sensing door lock, impact sensing auto-unlock and remote central locking

    Verdict

The Triber RXL gets a few necessities and even the segment-first centrally placed large cooled storage and rear AC offering vents for 2nd and 3rd row with separate blower control at an acceptable price premium of Rs 54,000. The additional premium might seem justified but since you’re buying a 5+2-seater, it would be better that you get decent equipment for all three passenger rows. Moreover, it misses out on a couple of basic necessities like day/night IRVM (inside rearview mirror) and height-adjustable driver’s seat, which in fact, will be missing even if you buy the top variant of the Triber. So for a better experience, we’d suggest you skip this variant and look further.

RXT: Advisable but not without its limitations

    Prices

    RXT

    Rs 5.99 lakh

    Premium over RXL

    Rs 50,000

Exterior: Chrome front grille, roof rails with 50kg load capacity, front and rear skid plates and electrically adjustable ORVMs.

Interior: Front air vents get chrome

Comfort & Convenience: Rear power windows, front seatback pockets, day/night IRVM, rear roof light, two glove boxes- one cooled, drawer under driver seat, vanity mirror- passenger side, 12V socket- 2nd row, LED instrument cluster with chrome garnish

Audio: 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 2 additional rear speakers.

    Verdict

When you stretch for the Triber RXT, you get better equipment not just for the driver but also for the second-row passengers. It does justify the additional price premium and will improve your ownership experience in the long run. But it continues to weirdly miss out on features like fog lamps, steering-integrated audio controls and driver seat height adjust which can be had in the rivals at a similar price point. If you can look past these limitations then you may go for it.

But if you have already stretched so far, we would suggest you look at the top-spec RXZ not just for the additional vanity features but for safety goodies like side airbags and rear parking camera.

RXZ: Continues missing on features but is still the variant of our choice

    Prices

    RXZ

    Rs 6.49 lakh

    Premium over RXT

    Rs 50,000

Exterior: Faux alloy wheels (wheel caps), LED daytime running lamps

Interior: Dual tone dashboard with silver accents, chrome on parking brake tip and front ac vents, piano black finish around infotainment, silver finish for door handles, gear knob and steering wheel insert.

Comfort & Convenience: Smart access card key, push button start/stop, rear wiper, washer and defogger, auto up/down- driver window, rear view camera, driver vanity mirror, 12V socket for 3rd row

    Audio: 2 front tweeters

    Safety: Dual front side airbags

Renault Triber: Hyundai Grand i10 Nios & Maruti Swift Rival In Pics

    Verdict

At just a Rs 50,000 premium, the Triber offers some visual enhancements like LEDs, chrome and silver inserts here and there along with convenience equipment like push-button start-stop, rear washer and wiper, auto up/down and more. While all these are trivial and might not make a world of difference in the long run, the extra airbags are something that makes the Triber RXZ the variant to go for.

But it continues to miss out on a host of features that can be found on similarly priced cars like the Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. The misses include front fog lamps, steering-integrated audio control, driver seat height adjust, front adjustable headrests, pretensioner and load limiter for the front passenger (in all variants), non-retractable third-row seatbelts and ISOFIX child anchorages. It might have a smart key and push-button start/stop but doesn’t get a hands-free access button on the door handles.

All said and done, this variant of the Renault Triber is the most economically priced, decently loaded 5+2 seater under Rs 7 lakh. Moreover, it undercuts popular mid-size hatchbacks and despite missing on some features, offers a few above them.

Audio controls on steering wheel is very important and it should be made available.
