One is among the most affordable MPVs of India, while the other carries a well-equipped standard safety pack. Let’s see which one is safer?
With new cars being tested, GNCAP (Global New Car Assessment Programme) crash test ratings are getting more relevant and necessary. These ratings give an idea regarding the integrity and strength of a car and how safe it can keep its passengers in case of an accident. The most crucial test here is the frontal offset crash test, but as per the new protocols, tests like electronic stability control, side barrier and pole impact, and pedestrian safety are also being factored in.

In this comparison, we put two popular MPVs against each other. While one is among the most affordable MPVs of India, the other is a feature-rich model with a well-equipped standard safety suit. So, Renault Triber vs Kia Carens. Let’s see how their scores compare to each other. Just like all the cars, their base variants have been tested.
Overall Scores
The Carens has scored three stars in the crash tests, while the humble Triber takes the lead with four stars. The Triber gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and seatbelt reminders for front passengers as standard. As for the Carens, its standard safety list includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill assist, ISOFIX, and a tyre pressure monitor.

Child Occupants’ Safety
The Triber received 27 points out of 49 for child occupant’s safety, while the Carens received 30.99 points. While both of them missed out on three-point seatbelt for the rear-middle passenger of the second row, the Triber skipped on ISOFIX also. The presence of ISOFIX and six airbags seems to have helped the Carens here.
Bodyshell Integrity
This is the most significant part of the crash test as it determines how strong the structural integrity of a car is. The Carens and Triber, both, have an unstable body shell and are incapable of withstanding further loadings.

So, as we can see here, the Triber wins in comparison, but the Carens is better in terms of child occupants’ safety. Moreover, it’s dual airbags versus six airbags, showing that four more airbags don’t improve the car’s safety to a huge extent.
