Renault’s Upcoming Sub-4 Metre Sedan Could Take Inspiration From The New Logan

Renault’s sub-4 metre sedan will be a petrol-only offering, just like its prime rival Maruti Dzire

• The sub-4m sedan was confirmed on the sidelines of 2020 Auto Expo.

• Leaked patent images of the new-gen Logan could inspire the upcoming Dzire rival in India .

• Sedan will be based on CMF-A+ platform like the Triber, Kiger and Nissan Magnite.

• It should use the same powertrain options as the Magnite and Kiger.

Be it sedans or SUVs, the sub-4 metre space is hotly contested in India. Renault already has the Kiger in the works that will fit into the SUV space once it’s launched and the French carmaker even confirmed at Auto Expo 2020 that it’s working on a similarly sized sedan as well. This new Maruti Dzire rival could take inspiration from the Renault Taliant, the renamed successor to the Logan, that was previously sold in India.

Like  the Captur sold in India which was a different car underneath but Renault still kept the styling same for both its Indian and European model. Just like that, the bigger Logan could serve as a design inspiration for Renault’s upcoming sub-4 metre sedan.

The Logan’s (will be called the Taliant for the upcoming gen model) design patents were recently leaked and that gave us a glimpse into what the sub-4 metre sedan from Renault could look like. It features a smooth flowing design with clean lines, and a kink in the headlight that will make it instantly recognisable. The sloping roofline flows nicely into the boot and the tail lamps also feature that angular design we saw up front in the headlights.

While we have somewhat of an idea about the design of Renault’s upcoming sub-4 metre sedan, things are more concrete when it comes to the underpinnings. It will be based on the same CMF-A+ platform that underpins the Triber and the Nissan Magnite, the upcoming Renault Kiger. It will also make use of the same powertrain as the Nissan Magnite/Renault Magnite. You will have the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine that makes 72PS/96Nm, and is mated to a 5-speed manual. There will also be the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor that makes 100PS/160Nm when it's mated to a 5-speed manual and 100PS/152Nm when mated to a CVT.

Not only do we expect the sedan to share the Magnite’s underpinnings, but their features list could be quite similar as well. Keeping that in mind, we expect an air purifier, wireless smartphone charging, an ambient lighting setup, cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, on the Renault sedan. Safety features such as dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, hill launch control and electronic stability control should also make the cut.

When this Renault sedan is launched in India sometime in 2021, it will go up against the likes of Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Hyundai Aura and the Tata Tigor and we expect it to be priced in the Rs 5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh price bracket.
