Volkswagen Group has confirmed the launch of the Skoda Rapid facelift in the Indian auto market this year. The Skoda sedan is slated to be launched by this Diwali. The manufacturer revealed the information while giving a presentation to its investors on the company’s forthcoming plans to launch different models and facelifts.
The teaser image of the Skoda Rapid is blur and doesn’t reveal much. However, the sedan has been spied testing several times, with a bit of its front fascia covered. It is expected of the facelift version to ditch the current Fabia-styled looks and adorn the latest Skoda family design philosophy.
It might have a similar façade as seen on the Skoda Octavia and the Superb sedans, with vertical black coloured slats and sharp rectangular headlamps. It will get a new bonnet, redesigned headlamps and taillamps and ORVMs with integrated side blinkers.
Getting a major facelift since 2011, the changes to the interior are expected to be limited. The car is expected to get a new touchscreen MirrorLink system, new seat covers, reverse camera, an automatic day/night rear-view mirror and auto wipers.
Under the hood, the powertrains are likely to remain unchanged, with the Rapid getting the same 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engines. Both the engines churn out the same power -- 104PS, but different torque figures -- 153Nm and 250Nm, respectively. A slick five-speed manual and seven-speed automatic transmissions are likely to remain intact.
