Skoda India is all set to launch the first major updated version of the Rapid tomorrow. The facelifted midsize sedan will feature aesthetic upgrades along with additional features and an uprated diesel motor. The Rapid will continue to go up against the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento (its sibling), and others.
As per the leaked images at several dealer stockyards and the teaser image shared by the Czech automaker, the updated Rapid has borrowed the front profile of the latest third-gen Fabia. And it is the front fascia that went under the knife the most, while the rest of the sedan will be largely the same with subtle changes. This update, especially the new face, will certainly add a couple of years to the current model’s lifecycle until the replacement arrives.
Mechanically, the Rapid will carry forward the current set of powertrains. However, the diesel will be the updated version of the 1.5-litre TDI oil burner, which made its debut with the VW Ameo diesel. The engine now puts out 110PS (up by 5PS) of max power and 250Nm of peak torque and will continue to come with an option of a five-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG automatic. The 1.6-litre petrol, meanwhile, will remain unchanged and will come mated to a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
