Small cars eyeing big business in India

The hatchback segment is getting hotter, as Maruti India, Honda India, Chevrolet India, Tata Motors, Toyota India and even BMW-all top notch car makers are pitching in new models in the cut-throat Indian car market. As the Indian car market is geared up with new launches in this festive season, Cardekho team will give you details of all the small cars launched this year. South Korean auto major Hyundai has slated the launch of its most awaited small car Hyundai EON on 14th October in Indian car market. Hyundai India is set to challenge the dominance of Maruti Suzuki’s top-selling hatch-Maruti Alto in the small car segment. Maruti Alto has been the highest-selling four wheeler since a long time. Honda India recently launched its all new Honda Brio in India to compete with the likes of Hyundai i10 and Maruti WagonR. While Chevrolet is doling out the diesel variant of its already established small car Chevrolet Beat, Maruti had also joined the race. Maruti India came with a new version of its hatchback Swift and presented the customers the Maruti Swift diesel.

Even Volkswagen is planning to bring its small car Volkswagen Up in India. The luxury car makers BMW will also enter the small car business. After giving classy sedans and sporty SUVs the big player BMW India will make a move to launch a low priced hatchback, BMW Mini Cooper in Indian auto market at a starting price of Rs 25 lakh. Mini will be showcased in the upcoming auto expo held in New Delhi in January 2012. The German carmaker BMW will start importing the iconic contemporary small car within the next two months and open two flagship dealerships, in Delhi and Mumbai.
