Will sit above Tivoli globally, SsangYong most likely to launch this in India!
SsangYong has revealed SIV-2 concept ahead of its global debut at the upcoming 2016 Geneva Motor Show, which is to be held next month. When it will go into production, most likely a couple of years from now (in 2018), the car will sit above the Tivoli compact SUV. The company claims the SIV-2 concept is “based on SsangYong’s theme of ‘Robust, Speciality, Premium.” It will compete with SUVs like Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tucson and others. Speaking of India, there is a possibility of the car making its way to the country, since Hyundai will launch Tucson soon enough, in the nation. Moreover, SsangYong is also launching Tivoli in India this year.
Speaking the SIV-2 concept, SsangYong has stated that it features a 48V mild hybrid powertrain. The engine is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol, probably the next motor in the new petrol clan after KUV100’s 1.2-litre (mFalcon G80), that Mahindra and SsangYong have co-developed. The engine is coupled to an electric motor along with a lithium-ion battery back. The automaker has said that the hybrid powertrain provides “quiet and efficient driving, reduced CO2 emissions and silent running when idling and at slow speeds.”
The concept’s design is in line with latest models from this Korean utility manufacturer like Tivoli and is an iteration of the SIV-1 concept debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. SsangYong said that the lightweight chassis and suspension setup can help in further development of high-efficiency powertrains, such as HEV, PHEV and EVs.
