The Mahindra Alturas G4 full-size premium SUV is a badge-engineered version of the Rexton which is offered by a Mahindra-owned international brand, the SsangYong. The Rexton facelift has now been teased ahead of its global debut on November 4.
The front fascia of the facelifted Rexton looks sharper and more eye-catching than the previous model, with new full-LED headlamps and integrated LED daytime running lights. It seems to have a sportier bumper and a MASSIVE grille. The rear end has also been updated to look sharper with new tail lamps and a sportier rear bumper. We can expect similar updates to the Mahindra Alturas G4 in 2021.
SsangYong will also be updating the Rexton with a host of modern driver assistance systems using autonomous driving tech like autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist. These systems will be specified at the car’s launch in November in South Korea. Some of the new tech could be introduced on the Alturas G4 facelift to compete with the recent introduction of the MG Gloster in the full-size SUV segment here. Even the new-gen XUV500 mid-size SUV is due to feature some driver-assistance tech and could launch before the facelifted Alturas G4 in early-2021.
Mahindra offers the Alturas G4 with a single 2.2-litre diesel engine that makes 180PS and 420Nm while mated to a 7-speed automatic. It is available with a choice of 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains with the latter being the best-equipped variant. While the Rexton also gets the choice of a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, the Alturas is likely to remain a diesel-only offering even with the facelift.
The Mahindra Alturas G4 is priced between Rs 28.72 lakh and Rs 31.72 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The facelift will attract a premium for the new features. It will continue to rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, MG Gloster as well as premium monocoque offerings like the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.
