The local arm,Mercedes Benz India Pvt. Ltd, of the German luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz, will soon deliver 150 cars in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Surprisingly, all these cars were booked in March and on a single day, said the car maker.  This delivery of cars show the under-recognized face of the Indian car market. Though there is a lot of discussion about India developing and changing into a global hub of small cars, on the other hand, it is also a fact that the sale of luxury models is also increasing at a good speed.

The reason behind is a lavish economy and the increasing number of the rich. The top brands in the luxurious cars segment are coming up with more and more new models for the Indian customers. These brands are also planning to invest in local manufacturing. Due to such reasons, the analysts opine that the segment is all ready to grow in a good direction in the coming years. The luxury cars cost Rs.25-28 lakh at the lower end.

Daimler AG, the maker of Mercedes-Benz cars, has introduced twenty one new products in India this year. Rival Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) has also introduced ten models this year. It will soon be introducing two more products. Manas Dewan, who heads corporate communications at Mercedes-Benz India, commented that the market has touched a point where it could absorb this kind of variety. Indian customers now fully understand the difference between C-class and S-class. Mercedes-Benz is also planning to add ten dealers to its present network of 16.

The other top brands like Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Audi are also planning to increase their presence. JLR which is owned by Tata Motors Ltd, had merely one dealer in India till previous year. Now it has got four dealers, 2 in Mumbai and 1 each in New Delhi and Hyderabad. To be more precise, the growth in sales of luxury cars is on a small base. The September sales of Mercedes-Benz India increased 60% to 662 units over the same month previous year. Audi sold 1,658 cars in India in the year 2009, up 58% from last year. The sales of BMW sales were 3,619 units in the year to December 2009. In the present year, it reached  3,301 units by August.
