Details of Suzuki Ignis, which will be showcased by Maruti at the upcoming Auto Expo, has surfaced online. In India, it will be Maruti’s offering in the micro SUV segment. With SUVs gaining popularity amongst the masses, carmakers are concentrating on products which give the SUV feel in smaller segments. The ball was set rolling by Renault's Kwid in the entry level segment. Then Mahindra, commonly known as the SUV maker, introduced an all new segment called Micro SUV with KUV100. Ignis, expected to be launched in mid 2016, will rival KUV 100.
Engine
In the leaked specifications, Ignis is offered with a petrol fueled engine. What's different about this drivetrain is that it features Suzuki’s SHVS hybrid technology mated to a petrol mill. The 1.25-liter Dualjet engine produces 89.75bhp along with the added 3bhp of the electric motor. SHVS comes as standard on all the variants. This power will be sent to a 2WD system as standard, but an optional Suzuki’s AllGrip 4WD system is also available.
Size
In terms of dimensions, Ignis is 3,700mm in length, 1,660mm in width and 1,595 mm in height. Wheelbase is 2,435 mm, which accommodates for a boot volume of 258 liters or 415 liters with the rear bench folded. Since it will compete with KUV100 in the Indian market, let us compare these dimensions with the measurements of the Mahindra. KUV100 is 3,675mm long, 1,715 mm wide and 1,655mm tall. Wheelbase is 2,385 mm long and accommodates for a boot volume of 243 liters and 473 liters with folded rear bench.
Features
From what has been revealed, the car will feature adjustable rear seats for more legroom, USB & bluetooth connectivity and a climate control air conditioning system.
When launched in India, Ignis will be sold within a price bracket of around Rs 4-7 lac and will most likely be sold out of the Nexa dealerships.
