Tata’s first-ever premium hatchback, the Altroz, is finally ready to make its production-spec unveil. The car which started its life as the 45X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo will make its production-spec debut on December 3.
Tata has confirmed that the Altroz will be launched in January 2020 and it is already in production at the carmaker’s plant in Pune. It has been spied testing many times and looks identical to the model that was showcased at Geneva earlier this year, including that striking yellow/gold paint finish. The Altroz was originally expected to launch in mid-2019 before being postponed, likely due to the slowdown being experienced by the automotive industry.
The Altroz will be offered with three engine options - 1.2-litre petrol, 1.2.-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. All three units will be BS6 compliant at the time of launch. The naturally-aspirated petrol engine is the same that powers the Tiago and Tigor. Meanwhile the turbo-petrol and diesel engines are likely to be detuned versions of those offered in the Nexon SUV.
As a premium hatchback offering, the Altroz will be equipped with features like a semi-digital instrument cluster, cruise control and ambient lighting. It will also feature a dual-tone dashboard to give the cabin an upmarket feel with a freestanding 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Tata is expected to price the Altroz between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 9 lakh. It will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno/Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz.
