Tata India recently launched the Tata Aria 4x2 version with good amount of price slashed down. Despite the effort from the auto major , the sales of the Tata Aria did not seem to improve. The price cut has not worked any miracles and Tata Aria continued to sell at low numbers. Tata Aria sales during the last month was unsually low at just 140 units. Therefore, ‘Volume-Puller’ is not the word one would employ to describe the Tata Aria sales. The 4x2 variant is expected to turn around the sales of the SUV. But now, the idea itself seems to be slight far-fetched. The massive size of the SUV is a big turn off to begin with.

This kind of sales is likely to continue for sometime, now that Mahindra XUV 500, its all-time rival is likely to comeback with renewed vigour from next month. Ever since its launch, Mahindra XUV 500 was claimed to be a champion in the industry to bag 8000 units within few days after its launch. Moreover, unable to keep up with the supply, the auto major had to call off the bookings for the car. The special introductory offer of Rs 10.80 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) has been the key selling point for the car. The marked distinction from the rest of Mahindra’s poorly built models has got the consumers attracted to the car more than ever. Within days, the Mahindra XUV 500 was sold out with 4 months stock.

This has made the auto major to halt the bookings for the car. However, Mahindra and Mahindra has announced that they will soon begin accepting the bookings for the SUV. Moreover, M&M might start introducing the SUV in the smaller cities and towns which will turn out to be an added advantage for the SUV. Right now the SUV sales are restricted to the metros and larger cities in the country. This is how the situation stands at the moment. But future might not turn out to be as good for the auto major. The Mahindra XUV 500 price is most likely to go up from the present Rs 10.80 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This might have few consumers turn their back to the SUV and opt for Tata Aria instead. The automatic variants on the both the cars, the XUV 500 and Tata Aria are due in a short time.
