There was not much progress made in the Tata Motors case challenging the Bengal government decision over returning the Singur land back to the farmers in all-day long proceedings in the Calcutta High Court. It seems that Tata Motors is desperate for their status over the land and have requested the government to agree to their proposal several times.

Tata Motors later that evening quoted a statement referring to its counsel Samaraditya Pal that they have requested the advocate general to agree to their status over the land as regard to distribution of land to be maintained in view of the ongoing hearing.

In response to the counsel's request of Tata Motors, the advocate said that he could not announce any result at that time and will have to think about it over the weekend and then come to any decision by Monday.

The company had already been requesting the court to give them the status quo over the Singur land but the court has totally refused to provide them with any aid. The company counsel has already tried to approach the defense counsel with a request to agree to the status quo, Justice pal has also left it to the parties to settle the matter. He asked the counsel to talk to the defense and sort the matter in themselves.

The defense counsel said that the Tata Motors petition is not acceptable as what they have challenged is he bill and now its the Act, and a Bill cannot be challenged after it becomes an Act. To this he also added that Tata India has not yet started its production. When Tata India shifted their machinery to Gujarat, what stands their at Singur is just a mere structure. Tata India is not even providing employment to the people so there is no reason that Tata Motors should have their status quo over the land.
