An investment of Rs.7,300 crore at the research and development programme (R&D) was made this year. The major aim of this programme is the manufacturing of engines for both the companies in Britain and India.

This would be the first deal ever made of this kind by the company. In this programme the manufacturing of engines will take place for the high end models of Tata Motors and the entry level models of JLR. The engines which are to be manufactured in this programme are likely to have the capacity less than 2L and will be equipped with 4 cylinders. These engines would be more fuel efficient than the ones that companies are using at present date in their cars.
