Tata Motors, Maharashtra Government Join Hands To Promote e-Mobility In The State

Tata to assist state government in setting up electric vehicle charging stations in Mumbai

Tata Motors has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government to supply 1,000 electric vehicles (EVs) ranging from passenger to commercial vehicles. Moreover, Tata Power Ltd., a Tata Group company, will facilitate the government in setting up charging stations across key locations in the state starting with its capital city, Mumbai. The latest move, the company claims, is in line with the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2018 and will accelerate the adoption of EVs in the state.

Mumbai, May 31, 2018

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, Tata Motors today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Government of Maharashtra for deployment of 1000 Electric Vehicles (EV) across its range of passenger and commercial vehicles in the State. Partnering with a Tata group company, Tata Power Ltd, Tata Motors will facilitate setting up of EV Charging Stations in the State. The MoU boosts the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2018 in accelerating the adoption of EVs in Maharashtra. Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors signed the MoU in the presence of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis. Additionally, the Chief Minister also flagged off 5 Tigor EVs at the Gateway of India, Mumbai. These vehicles were provided by Tata Motors to EESL as part of its tender.

Speaking on the MoU signing initiative, Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors said,

On setting up of new EV charging stations in Mumbai in partnership with Tata Motors, Praveer Sinha, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Power, said,

Commenting on the flag-off of Tigor EVs, Mr. Butschek added,

“As part of our tender with EESL, we have already completed the production of 250 cars and initiated the execution of phase 2 orders. Today’s delivery of 5 Tigor EVs by EESL to the Maharashtra Government has effectively paved way for connecting our aspirations in the e-mobility space with the Government’s vision. With Tigor EV, we have begun our journey in boosting e-mobility and will offer a full range of electric vehicles to the Indian customers. We continue to work in a collaborative manner to facilitate faster adoption of electric vehicles and to build a sustainable future for India.”
