Tata Motors introduced India’s most affordable long-range electric vehicle, the Nexon EV, in January 2020. It has now announced that the electric SUV has crossed the 2,000-unit sales mark in 10 months since its launch. As per Tata, the Nexon EV’s sales figure stood at 2,200 units in November 2020, with 1,000 units being sold in the last three months (September to November) alone.
The carmaker has also introduced an e-mobility ecosystem termed ‘Tata uniEVerse’ to offer charging solutions, new retail experiences and financing options. You can have the electrified Nexon in three variants: XM, XZ+ and XZ+ LUX. The Nexon EV is based on the facelifted Nexon, hence, both share quite a few features including the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof, and auto AC. Both get the same standard safety features as well including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.
The Nexon EV is powered by an electric motor that has an output rating of 129PS and 245Nm. It gets two driving modes: Drive and Sport. Tata claims a range of 312km on a full charge of the 30.2kWh battery. As per the carmaker, the battery can be charged from empty to 80 percent in just 1 hour at DC fast-charging stations.
Since the Tata Nexon EV is a sub-4m electric SUV, its prices are relatively lower than those of the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric. Here’s a table showing the price range of the three EVs:
Tata Nexon EV |
MG ZS EV |
Hyundai Kona Electric |
|
Price |
Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.25 lakh |
Rs 20.88 lakh to Rs 23.58 lakh |
Rs 23.75 lakh to Rs 23.94 lakh |
All prices, ex-showroom
The Nexon EV is still the most affordable long-range EV on sale in India with a claimed range of over 300km. It is also available on subscription basis in select cities. It will have a direct rival in the form of the Mahindra XUV300 Electric that’s expected to go on sale in 2021.
