Tata Nexon Extends Lead Over Maruti Brezza In October 2023 Sub-4m SUV Sales

The sub-4m SUV space enjoyed a boost in demand due to the October 2023 festivities, but perhaps not as significant as carmakers may have hoped for. The sales list continues to be dominated by the Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza with both models crossing the 16,000 sales mark. • The demand for the Tata Nexon in October 2023 grew month-on-month (MoM) by over 10 percent. It is important to note that these figures include the sales of the Nexon EV as well. These figures suggest the Nexon facelift has been well received with its refreshed design, additional comforts and new features.

• Second in the monthly charts, the Maruti Brezza is still highly popular with 16,050 units sold, just not as much as its Indian rival. It enjoyed a MoM growth of just under 7 percent, while it has recovered to a 27 percent market share which is a year-on-year (YoY) improvement of over 8 percent.

• The Mahindra XUV300 maintained a steady demand during the festive period with just under 5,000 units sold in the previous month. 

• MoM demand for the Nissan Magnite rose by close to 5 percent during October 2023 with just over 2,500 units while its mechanical sibling, the Renault Kiger, continues to see sales of less than 1,000 units. The Kiger’s MoM performance was nearly 7 percent lower and currently holds a market share of less than 2 percent.

• Overall, the subcompact SUV space saw an MoM growth of just over 6 percent.
