Just because the Tata Safari is bigger on the outside than the Hyundai Alcazar, does that mean it offers more space on the inside?
The recently launched three-row SUVs, the Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar, are priced quite close to each other. Now, if you are looking to bring one of these home, chances are, you want to know which one has a more spacious cabin. To find the answer, we broke out the measuring tape and got to work.
Before we reveal the numbers, let’s take a look at their exterior dimensions:

The Safari offers more legroom, whereas the Alcazar has more knee room. The difference between the two is, however, negligible. Most people wouldn’t really be able to tell.
-
That said, taller passengers will appreciate the increased headroom in the Safari.
-
The Alcazar offers a longer seat base but it’s hardly noticeable.
-
Both SUVs have a similar seat base, however, the Safari has a marginally taller seatback.
-
The Safari has an outright advantage when it comes to cabin width, and you will find that its cabin feels much more spacious than that of the Alcazar.

The Safari’s second row is wider as well, although its advantage here is cut down to just 5cm. This is still a noticeable difference and passengers will definitely appreciate this extra space inside the cabin. It will also be extremely beneficial in case of the seven-seater versions of both the cars, where three people will sit in the second row.
-
While the Safari does hold a 1cm advantage in terms of headroom, it won’t be all that apparent in the real world.
-
In terms of knee room, the Safari once again takes a healthy lead, offering 6cm more space than the Alcazar.
-
The Alcazar’s seat base is a bit wider, while the Safari’s seat base is slightly longer. These differences will not really be at all that evident.
-
The Safari’s seatback is significantly taller and will be more comfortable for taller passengers on longer journeys.
-
Overall, the Safari’s second-row seats are better contoured, while the Alcazar’s seats are flatter, so you miss out on that extra support.

The Alcazar bucks the trend when it comes to shoulder room in the third row. It is the wider SUV in this case and that too by quite a margin. Not only that, it offers more headroom as well, so wider and taller passengers will be more comfortable in the Hyundai SUV. This is further supported by the fact that it has a wider seat base and a taller seat back as well.
-
The Safari is better when it comes to knee room. The third-row seat is also slightly higher off the ground, in comparison to the Alcazar. More space and a slightly less ‘knees-up’ position in the Safari means that passengers will be more comfortable here on longer journeys. The longer seat base will also offer more underthigh support.

Verdict
Being the bigger car here, the Safari offers more space on the inside, which results in a more comfortable experience. However, it has an oddly small boot (all rows up) when compared to the Alcazar. The Hyundai SUV, being smaller, offers a decent amount of space and comfort, a bigger boot, and is easier to drive in city traffic.
