Tata’s name hunt campaign came to an end, as the manufacturer has finalized ‘Tiago’ as the official moniker for its latest hatchback, which was earlier named Zica. The company’s name search boiled down to three names; Civet, Tiago and Adore. Voting was going on for these contenders, since last Friday and it seems like the majority preferred Tiago.
The car, now named Tiago is expected to be launched next month and in all probability will be priced competitively. Tiago has a lot of features and our first drive revealed that it drives quite pliantly. Speaking of the drive, powering this “zippy car” is the debutant 1.05-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder Revotorq engine and 1.2-liter Revotron petrol mill. The former diesel one produces 70PS@4000rpm and 140Nm of peak torque in between 1800-3000rpm while the latter generates 85PS@6000rpm and a peak torque of 114 Nm@3500 rpm. The powerplants will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is also expected that Tiago will be offered with an optional AMT gearbox.
The reason behind anticipation surrounding Tiago spawns from the fact that this offering by Tata will come in with a plethora of segment first features, which include the likes of an 8-speaker sound system, Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, CSC (Corner Stability Control), Juke and Navigation app and a host of other features. Tata’s ConnectNext Infotainment System will also make its way into Tiago and will come with USB, Bluetooth and Aux-in connectivity.
