Tata has launched its first all-electric hatchback, the Tiago EV. It is sold in four broad trims: XE, XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux. The carmaker will open bookings for the electric hatchback on October 10 and will start delivering it from January.
Similar But Different
The Tiago EV is based on the facelifted Tiago and looks almost identical to the ICE (internally combustible engine) version. That said, it does get EV-specific revisions such as a closed-off grille, blue inserts all around, newly designed wheels, an updated colour palette, and ‘EV’ badging.
Inside, the only difference is that the Tiago EV gets blue accents around the AC vents and the instrument cluster and ‘Tri-arrow’ elements on the new leatherette upholstery. The Tiago EV’s equipment list consists of automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, a seven-inch touchscreen system, and connected car tech. Its safety kit includes dual airbags, a tyre pressure monitor, and cornering stability control.

Electric Power And Time Needed To Juice Up
Tata has provided the Tiago EV with two battery pack options: 19.2kWh and 24kWh batteries paired with an electric motor making 61PS/104Nm and 75PS/114Nm, respectively. The former gets a range of 250km, and the latter gets 315km (MIDC-certified). The Tiago EV also gets four-level regenerative braking and two drive modes: City and Sport.
It gets four charging options: a 15A socket charger (up to 8.7 hours), 3.3 kW AC charger (up to 6.4 hours), 7.2kW AC charger (up to 3.36 hours), and DC fast charger with 10-80 percent charge in 57 minutes.
Warranty, Price And Competition
Tata is offering its battery pack and motor with a warranty of eight years/1.6 lakh km, whichever is earlier. The Tiago EV is priced from Rs 8.49 lakh to Rs 11.79 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom Delhi). Although it doesn’t have any direct rivals for now, it will be an affordable alternative to the upcoming Citroen C3 EV.
