Tata Motors said today that they had sent prototypes of its Rs. 1 lakh car, Nano from its Pantnagar based manufacturing plant to three cities in the state for test drive. Mr. Nagbhushan, Head of Tata Motors' engineering department, said that three prototypes of Tata Nano have been sent to Dehradun, Almora and Ranikhet where the test-run of this car would be conducted. Tata would start booking for Nano from March next year, he added.
Uttarakhand government had announced last week to provide the company an additional 45 acres of land at its Pantnagar facility. The allotment of additional land might help the company for rolling out the world's least priced car at Rs. 1 lakh, after delays due to the Singur imbroglio.
Tata Nano was originally planned to be commercially launched at Durga Puja this year but had been postponed to the last quarter of this fiscal. Tata is planning to produce Nano from its various plants, including Pune and Pantnagar till the mother plant at Sanand is ready.
