Update: Tata has showcased the entry level hatchback Zica aka Tiago at the 2016 Auto Expo that will take on other popular hatchbacks in the country including Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Hyundai i10. Audiences may not have to wait too long to get their hands on the newly launched hatchback with its release scheduled in two weeks. With company’s very own ConnectNext infotainment system, segment first 8 speaker system and alternatives for diesel and naturally aspirated motor, Tata Zica looks pretty strong to make a big impact. Tata's latest little hatch finally gets a name! Internally called Project Kite, the little hatch will officially be called the Tata 'Zica'.
We had spotted the Zica way back in July doing its final rounds of testing with ace F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan behind the wheel. December 1st shall mark the global launch of the new hatch from the Tata stable.
Size wise, the Zica slots in between the Nano and the Bolt. The Zica is expected to get both a petrol and a diesel motor. The petrol motor will be a new 1.2 litre unit developed ground up for the Zica churning out 84 bhp and 110Nm of torque. The diesel mill is expected to be a 1.0 litre unit (derived from the old 1.4 motor that powers the Indica currently) that develops 67 bhp and 140Nm.
The platform will spawn a compact sedan as well, which shall sit well under the 4m mark. The same engines can be expected to power the sedan as well. The Zica price is expected to start around Rs. 3.5 lac mark for the base petrol variant which puts it in the line of fire of many established hatches like the WagonR, Grand i10 and the Celerio as well. The Zica should give the competition a good run for their money.
