Courtesy of its new 100 kWh battery pack, the P100D is the first all-electric production vehicle in the world to offer over 300 miles (approximately 500km) range on a single charge. The P100D battery back is also available for the Model X SUV.

Tesla has announced a battery pack upgrade for the Model S and the Model X, which will increase the overall range of both the EVs and also make them quicker than before.

Tesla Model S P100D

Put into Ludicrous mode, the Model S with the P100D pack hits the clock for 0-60mph (96kmph) at 2.5 seconds. Tesla claims that the Model S is the third fastest accelerating production car in the world, behind the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder. However, both the LaFerrari and the 918 Spyder are no longer available to be bought new. So, technically, this makes the Model S P100D the quickest accelerating production car on sale today.

The Model X P100D in Ludicrous mode now accelerates to 60mph (96kmph) in 2.9 seconds, making what is already the world’s quickest SUV even quicker.

The 100 kWh battery pack has also increased the estimated range of the Model S to 315 miles (506km) on the American cycle and 613 km on the European cycle on a single charge. The Model X will do an estimated 289 miles (465km) and 542 km respectively on the same cycles on a single charge.

The P100D is available to order with both the Model S and the X. Customers who have ordered a P90D with the Ludicrous mode and are yet to take delivery of the vehicle can upgrade to the 100 kWh battery pack for $10,000 (approximately Rs 6.7 lakh). Existing P90D owners can also upgrade to a 100 kWh pack, but for $20,000 (approximately Rs 13.4 lakh), as their used 90 kWh pack will have to be recycled.

Tesla Model 3

Tesla is yet to make an official entry in India, which will happen with the launch of Model 3 in the country in 2018. However, interested Indian customers can pre-order their Model 3 right now. After the launch of the Model 3 in India, the electric carmaker might introduce the rest of its portfolio too in the country.
