With the rapid growth in the Indian EV space, we are seeing new and improved electric cars from multiple carmakers every few weeks or so. Most of the electric cars across segments offer not only premium features and good driving ranges, but also pack decent performance. The nature of electric motors means the power and torque delivery is immediate allowing for rapid acceleration, better than most ICE models of similar price. Here are 10 of the quickest EVs to do the 0-100kmph sprint (claimed times) priced under Rs 1 crore.

Volvo C40 Recharge: 4.7 Seconds

The recently launched Volvo C40 Recharge has made the top of this list with a 0-100kmph time of just 4.7 seconds. Volvo offers it with a 78kWh battery pack mated to a dual-motor setup in an all-wheel drive system, that churns out 408PS and 660Nm. The coupe-styled electric SUV claims a WLTP-certified range of 530km and is priced at Rs 61.25 lakh.

Volvo XC40 Recharge: 4.9 Seconds

The Volvo XC40 Recharge follows its sibling with a 0-100kmph time of 4.9 seconds. It also gets a 78kWh battery pack, but it has a different chemistry compared to the C40 Recharge. It does have the same output figures from the dual-motor setup. However, it gets a lower driving range of 418km (WLTP certified) and, subsequently, a lower price of Rs 56.90 lakh.

Kia EV6: 5.2 Seconds

In third place, Kia’s flagship model in India, the EV6, has a 0-100kmph time of 5.2 seconds from its dual-motor AWD variant. The electric SUV comes with a 77.4kWh battery pack with two powertrain options: a single-motor rear-wheel drive system (229PS/350Nm) and the quicker dual-motor system (325PS/605Nm). The Kia EV6 claims a range of up to 708km and is priced from Rs 60.95 lakh to Rs 65.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

BMW iX1: 5.6 Seconds

The next fastest-accelerating EV in this price range is the newly launched BMW iX1. This electric SUV is only 0.4 seconds slower than the EV6 and does the 0-100kmph run in 5.6 seconds. It gets a 66.4kWh battery pack mated to a dual-motor setup with combined output figures of 313PS and 494Nm. The iX1 has a claimed range of 440km and is priced at Rs 66.90 lakh.

BMW i4: 5.7 Seconds

Following the iX1 is the BMW i4 electric sedan with a similar 0-100kmph time of 5.7 seconds. It comes with an 83.9kWh battery pack powering a single rear-mounted electric motor rated at 340PS and 430Nm. The electric sedan has a claimed range of 590km and is priced from Rs 73.90 lakh to Rs 77.50 lakh.

Mini Cooper SE: 7.3 Seconds

The smallest car in this list claims that it can do 0-100kmph in 7.3 seconds. The Mini Cooper SE comes with a 32.6kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor that produces 184PS and 270Nm. It has a claimed range of 270km and is priced at Rs 53.50 lakh. For reference, the ICE Mini Cooper S is quicker than its EV version.

BYD Atto 3: 7.3 Seconds

We bet you did not expect that the acceleration time for the sporty Mini Cooper SE will be matched by a family electric SUV in the form of the BYD Atto 3. The BYD electric SUV has a 60.48kWh battery pack mated to an electric motor that makes 204PS and 310Nm. It has a claimed driving range of 521km and BYD retails it from Rs 33.99 lakh to Rs 34.49 lakh.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: 7.6 Seconds

A mechanical sibling to the Kia EV6 and based on the same platform, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 makes it onto the list with a 0-100kmph time of 7.6 seconds. It houses a 72.6kWh battery pack and gets a rear-wheel drive system with an electric motor that churns out 217PS and 350Nm. The retro-styled futuristic electric SUV has a claimed range of 631km and is priced at Rs 45.95 lakh.

Mercedes-Benz EQB: 8 Seconds

The Mercedes-Benz EQB can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 8 seconds. The three-row electric SUV has a 66.5kWh battery pack mated to a dual-motor setup which churns out 228PS and 390Nm. The EQB has a claimed driving range of 423km and is priced at Rs 77.50 lakh.

Mahindra XUV400: 8.3 Seconds

Lastly, we have the Mahindra XUV400 with a claimed 0-100kmph acceleration time of 8.3 seconds. The Mahindra electric SUV comes with two battery pack options: 34.5kWh and 39.4kWh. Both these batteries are paired with an electric motor that makes 150PS and 310Nm. The XUV400 has a claimed range of up to 456km and is priced from Rs 15.99 lakh to Rs 19.39 lakh.
