Top Gainers and Losers; August Car Sales Analysis- CarDekho Exclusive

Like every month, CarDekho brings to you the top gainers and losers of August on the basis of sales numbers achieved by auto-makers.

Top 10 selling cars

. Maruti Suzuki's best ever selling car, Alto has once again been the top selling car in August.

. Maruti Swift and Dzire could not make it to top-10 due to Manesar Plant unrest.

. The new entrants in top 10 selling cars have been Tata Nano, Hyundai i10 and Ford Figo.

Segment A-B

. The only A-segment car Tata Nano has once again proven its dominance in the market by selling 6507 units in August.

. Maruti Suzuki has once againe topped the entry level hatchback segment with Alto and WagnoR, the other two vehicles which did superb were Hyundai's i10 and Eon.

Segment B+

. As they say, loss of one is a gain of other, Segment B+ has inspected the same, the segment topper Maruti Suzuki Swift which was selling above 10K+ units a month, came down to mere 804 units due to Manesar Lock out, and this has certainly helped i20 doing better. I20 sold a total 7712 units and took the title of segment topper.

. The other two cars which did pretty well during August were Tata Indica and Ford Figo with the total sales no. of 7591 and 6295 respectively.

. However Maruti Suzuki Ritz is doing pretty good, but since it has just received a facelift, we are expecting it to come out even better in months to come.

Segment C- Entry Level Sedans

. The month August have not been good for the entry level Sedan segment as compared to the last month's performance,

. What has directly affected the overall growth of this segment is the poor performance of the segment topper, Maruti Swift Dzire due to the lock out at the Manesar plant where Swift and Dzire are manufactured. Alone Dzire sold about 8000 units in the corresponding month, last year.

. Who has directly benefited due to Dzire's underplay is Hyundai Verna, that came out as the new segment topper by selling 4880 units in August, Etios too did well with 3,721 sold units.

Segment C/D- Luxury Sedans

. The luxury sedan segment has been successful doing pretty well in August, the newly launched Hyundai Elantra, which started pre-booking before its launch sold a total 608 units, and came out as the new segment topper.

Segment MPV

. Maruti Suzuki's newly launched utility vehicle, the Ertiga has been successful maintaining its peak position in the segment outpacing Toyota Innova for consecutive months.

. The segment on the whole grew at an impressive pace, a total of 36,204 units were sold in August.

Segment SUV

. Mahindra & Mahindra's Bolero has sustained its top position with a total of 8717 units sold during August, in fact Bolero is at third in the top 10 selling cars list

. The other two vehicles which had been impressive in August too were from Mahindra & Mahindra, Scorpio and XUV500. Renault Duster too have been rising at a great pace.
