Top-10 Hottest Cars at Geneva Motor Show

Geneva, the French-speaking Swiss city hosts one of the most important auto shows in the world, the Geneva Motor Show. What makes it such an appropriate choice of venue for a motor show is its global status. The exotic locale makes for a perfect venue for Geneva's annual Salon International de l'Auto show for this is where many exotic cars from all over the world are first displayed. Held every year in March in the first-rate Palexpo convention center, this show has been the debut platform for stunning cars for decades.
The love for cars combined with the thirst for knowledge is the reason why people throng auto shows all over the world. While some go to check out the newest concepts, others visit just to see their favourite hot wheels. From a car maker's perspective, car shows are basically a display of the company's artistic talents. In addition to the most beautiful and elegant cars, one also gets to preview the technology that may be soon seen treading roads all over the world. But what makes these shows so important is the fact that they are crucial as a means for PR activities, advertisement, also to enhance publicity. And for now, it is the 2014 edition of the Geneva Motor Show that has had the world on the edge.
We have deliberately selected some of the most advanced and elegant cars that actually stole the show; have a look- (in no specific order).
1. Mercedes S-Class Coupe
If you want to put the best example of German engineering and design excellence, the S-Class Coupe is possibly the best one. The four seat, two door coupe is equipped with a 4.7-litre twin turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which produces 449bhp and 700Nm of torque. These power figures assist this car to cover the 0-100 kmph slot in mere five seconds. The rich aesthetics make it look elegant yet sporty and due to its intimidating studded grille on the front and LED rear lights, it looks better than any of its competitor. And as it is the top of the line Merc, luxury is guaranteed, features like heated armrest, hot stone massage function on the front seats and headlights encrusted with Swarovski crystals, give you the feel of utter lavishness.
2. Bentley Continental GT Speed/ Bentley Flying Spur V8
The British carmaker – Bentley is more of a synonym to premium cars and making it stand true, the carmaker showcased two brilliant cars, Continental GT Speed and Flying Spur V8. The GT Speed now gets even more powerful with a slightly tweaked version of the same 6.0-liter twin turbo W12 engine, which is now producing 646 bhp and peak torque of 820 Nm. With a more powerful engine, Bentley also gave Continental GT some visual enhancements, like a front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser that are finished to match the exterior paint colour. Red painted brake calipers and chrome ‘Speed’ badges on the front fender complete the styling changes.
On the other hand, Bentley Flying Spur now gets a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 making it produce 500 hp and 660 Nm. The new Flying Spur now can hit a top speed of 295 kmph. Bentley says that the engine comes with cylinder deactivation, intelligent thermal management and electrical recuperation, allowing the car to have a range of 840 km on its 90 liter fuel tank.
3. LAMBORGHINI HURACAN LP 610-4:
Lamborghini is known for making superfast luxury sports car, which can leave you with a dropped jaw and they did the same at this Geneva Motor Show. The company showcased a replacement for the Gallardo, Lamborghini's top-selling model of all time. Christened as Huracan, which is the Spanish word for hurricane, this sleek missile has new aluminum and carbon fiber components and a top speed of 325 kmph. Its powerful V10 motor transmits power to all four wheels through a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The Huracan is further equipped with electronically controlled suspension and huge carbon-ceramic brakes.
4. 2015 Audi TT
The German giant showcased its top of the line sports car, Audi TT, the new TT might seem a bit low on the transition as it still resembles the earlier generation but still it is significantly sharper, both in terms of its fit and finish and also its styling. Audi TT uses the much acclaimed and accolade Volkswagen’s MQB platform. The TT comes with a new cockpit, which now has a new screen replacing the dials and displays everything from SatNav to the speedo. Audi further comes up with a new car play system as it last month announced that it is working with Google on R&D.
5. Hyundai Intrado
The South Korean car manufacturer has already rolled out some extraordinary concept in last couple of years and they did it again at Geneva. The company showcased a great looking crossover, introduced as Intrado, which demonstrates the next gen design language of Hyundai. For example, the Intrado uses a series of carbon fibre weaves and resin for its skeletal structure. This means the basis of the car is extremely strong but also very light.
6. Volkswagen T-Roc
The German giant has showcased a brilliant concept called the T-Roc, which is a Polo-sized SUV. The SUV has been built on VW’s MQB platform. The SUV concept is equipped with a 181bhp/380Nm, two-litre direct-injection TDI four cylinder engine coupled with a seven-speed DSG box and 4Motion all-wheel drive. The SUV will be switchable through three driving modes - 'Street', 'Off-road' and 'Snow' with advance features like antilock braking and hill hold to help. The body-shell is based on the Modular Transverse Matrix platform that helps concept to weighs only 1420kg. The production version is expected by 2017.
7. BMW 4-Series Coupe
BMW has unveiled the 4 Series Gran Coupe, which is a 4 door coupe. After the M4 and 2 door coupe, the Grand Coupe is the third member of the 4 series family. BMW unveiled two models, the 418d and the 435i. The 4-door coupe has the same dimensions as the two-door coupe, with 4,638 mm of length, 1,825 mm of width and a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. The 4 Series Gran Coupe will be available with 5 different engine options.
8. Ferrari California T:
Ferrari showcased the California T, a car that can accelerate from 0-100 kph (0-62mph) in just 3.6 seconds and can cruise at top speeds in excess of 314 kph. The successor of the legendary California, it is also 15 per cent more energy efficient. It's not only fast on the road, even its roof takes 14 seconds to get close.
9. Skoda Vision C
Skoda unveiled a new concept at the show called Vision C. The concept resembles the Audi A7 Sportback, however Skoda says that the Vision C concept previews the next stage in their design language. The concept is equipped with the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine under developing 110bhp. The concept also has a CNG tank, which helps the Vision C achieve an excellent CO2 emission value of 91 g/km, making it compliant to the European Union’s 2020 emission standards.
10. Mitsubishi Concept XR
The Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi showcased a range of Hybrid vehicles at Geneva, but the most impressive was the concept named as XR-PHEV. The XR in the name stands for Cross Over Runner (X=Cross). Fit for four people, the hybrid engine delivers a mileage of 28kmpl, while in the plug-in mode it has a range of 85kms. The third vehicle GC-PHEV is four wheel drive vehicle comes under the SUV segment. GC (Grand Cruiser), houses a bulky engine of specification 3.0-litre V6 supercharged gasoline engine. The power is distributed to all the wheels by an eight speed automatic transmission. Depending upon the driving condition, one can switch between the pure EV mode or Hybrid Mode.
