The most exciting saloon from the Japanese car maker is overloaded with demand in Indian auto market and the result is that the car is not able to meet the sky touching demand.  The highly popular model, Toyota Etios was launched in December 2010, which made an entry with bang by registering phenomenal 12,000 bookings in a period of 15 days. The bookings were closed within a period from December 6 to Dec 9.

The company dint expect this huge demand of the car model in Indian auto market and  thus no dedicated facilities were  built for Toyota Etios and the result is that the  current facilities are working under  great stress. The car model is  facing a waiting period of  complete 8 months from the day of booking. The new customers are avoiding the purchase of this car as the company will be taking more than half a year to make the delivery which is a long period to make the booking.

The worst case is that the customers who made the booking of this car a long time back are turning to cancel the booking as the delivery period is extremely high to buy a new car. Such customers are turning back to other options available in the market which includes Indigo CS, Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Verna and Ford Fiesta.

As per a dealer of Toyota based in Mumbai-based, a booking of 189 Toyota Etios were registered out of which half have already been cancelled by the customers. Moreover, the dealers are also claiming that the lack of essential features is also a reason behind the cancellation of booking other than the long waiting period. Many dealers round the country are complaining high cancellation of the orders.

As per the statements made by Sandeep Singh who is the company’s deputy managing director, few cancellations are normal and the capacity of the existing facilities will be increased soon which will result in lower waiting period after February 2011.

The delay is caused due to a big demand and limited production also now with a new production plant coming up will help in speeding up the wait periods for the Etios and Fortuner.
