Toyota India likely to launch more small cars

Toyota Motors during the launch of their small car Toyota Etios Liva on Monday asserted that soon the Indian Auto market is going to witness few more cars by Toyota India. Hiroji Onishi, president, Toyota Motor Asia Pacific. said that the company plans to launch few more cars in India out of which there are two small cars and an SUV. He said that the cars they are having in their lineup are not enough to meet the needs of the Indian people therefore in wake of meeting the out stripped demand for contemporary cars in India the company is mulling to launch more cars in India auto market. He also mentioned that with global shift made by the company towards the small car segment they are looking forward to establish a partnership with other small companies around the world like Daihatsu, Japan’s Subaru and French Peugeot.

He further added that the small car segment in India is growing at such high rate because of the increase in the petrol prices all over the country. The small cars are much more fuel efficient and economical and that’s the main reason why companies are diverting their minds towards the small car segment. We see a larger potential for cars like one smaller and cheaper than the Liva, a car bigger and more expensive than it and a compact SUV.”

He stated that with the surge in demand for hatchback cars in India Toyota India is contemplating launch of a small car smaller and priced lower than the recently launched Etios Liva. Apart from this the company also plans to launch another small car bigger and priced higher than Liva, along with that a compact SUV is also being considered under Toyota India portfolio.He further added that countries like India are the primary targets for the company to launch their hatchback cars. As it is easy to make a stand in these developing countries rather than the ones like China and Japan where market is already full of the major brands.

In wake of strengthening company's position in the hatchback car segment the company would try their best in having tie ups with many smaller companies like Daihatsu, which have the power of judgment over the manufacturing of small cars. Toyota Motors already has partnership (B-Zero project) with Peugeot in Europe and can also think about having something similar to it with Subaru.With the launch of the small car Toyota Etios Liva on Monday, the company would be expecting to get a similar response as they got for Toyota Etios sedan.
