Toyota Prius launched Auto Expo

Toyota Motors with a huge pavilion at the 10th Auto Expo in New Delhi displayed the all new Toyota Prius, a full-hybrid electric mid-size car, that will be launched in late 2010 for the Indian customers as quoted by Hiroshi Nakagawa, Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Limited. Sure to give a strong competition to Honda Civic-hybrid, Toyota Prius has been recognised as the most fuel-efficient car sold in US. Prius can be propelled by Petrol as well as electric power. Fuel efficiency is wisely achieved as the engine automatically turns off when the car stops. Toyota Prius comes with an on-board computer program which controls the timing to use the engine, motor, or both to recharge the battery to maximizing efficiency.

Toyota Motors expects Prius to stand tall as a style statement for all automobile lovers across India. As the car will be made in India as a CBU, the prices are expected to be on a higher range. Toyota Prius is going to have an Electric control CVT transmission. Prius will have dimensions of 4460*1745*1510 mm and a wheel base of 2700mm. The engine type would be 2ZR-FXE Gasoline engine 16 valve POHC with BVCI. Prius is supposed to have an output of 100 Kw(136 BS). The motor specifications include 60 KW (81.6 PS), 5200 Rpm.

Toyota Prius, being extremely popular in US because of its astonishing looks and sound fuel-efficiency offers features like 7 SRS Airbags, ABS with BAVSC, electric shift lever, Head-up display, Hybrid synergy drive and Traction control. The car would be operative in 3 modes viz, EV, ECO and Power. The car would offer an electric only top speed of 25 miles per hour. At present Toyota Prius, is available across 40 countries.
