Toyota Prius to be brought in India as per schedule

Toyota, Japan based world's largest auto manufacturer is not going to alter its plans of bringing popular Hybrid model Toyota Prius in India as in a statement given by Toyota's Indian subsidiary TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motors). The statement came as a clarification from the company's side after reports came about a possible recall of Prius model by the company in its major markets, US and Japan. According to an official of TKM, Indian subsidiary of Japan based Toyota Motors, company's plans will remain absolutely unchanged of launching Toyota Prius model in India as bookings for the model had started by January and the vehicle will be delivered by end of this quarter or by starting of next fiscal year. Company has received 54 orders for Prius model from Indian customers till now he added.

Toyota Motors facing a tough time after some accelerator related issues surfaced in its models in US market. Now, the reports of a possible recall of Prius model by the company in US and Japan market added fuel to the fire. Toyota Motors, which is known for its quality and safety oriented manufacturing had become worlds largest automaker (by replacing GM) in year 2008. Company has to recall around 8 million vehicles sold in US market due to an error in accelerator and now company received complains about a problematic braking system in its popular Hybrid model, Toyota Prius.

Toyota Prius was first introduced to the world market in Year 1997 and it has sold around 1.5 million units of this model till now. The Prius model was launched in India in Delhi auto show last month in a price range of Rs 26.55 lakh and Rs 27.86 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).

Toyota is also planning to launch a new small car model  Toyota Etios in India and the concept of this model was showcased in Delhi auto expo last month.
