Toyota registers 26% sales growth in Aug 2010

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the Indian unit of Japanese car maker, has reported a jump of 26 percent in its sales in the month of August 2010. The company has managed to sell 6361 units of its cars in the Indian market during this month as against 5045 units sold in the same period last year. The company registered a growth of 62% in the sales during the first eight months of this calendar year as compared to the sales of the same period last year.

The launch of much awaited Toyota Corolla Altis diesel in the last week of July 2010, has contributed significantly in the company's total sales during this month. The Corolla Altiss model now has an upper had over the other models of premium sedan segment like Honda Civic (available in only petrol version) and Chevrolet Cruze (available in only diesel version) in the Indian market.

Moreover, the company has recently launched a limited edition of its popular luxury SUV, Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market. The ‘Fortuner Anniversary Edition’ has been launched to celebrate the completion of one year of Fortuner model in the Indian market. So far, the company has managed to sell about 10,000 units of this vehicle in the country. The company will sell only 250 units of this Anniversary Edition Fortuner model in the Indian market. The Anniversary Edition model will be available in pearl white color. The limited edition Fortuner model carries some minor changes as compared to the existing model, including, new body color bumpers at front and rear, a rear roof, chrome garnished exhaust muffler.

Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director-Marketing TKM, said in a statement given in the sales release issued by the company for the month of Aug 2010, that the Corolla Diesel that was launched in the end of July has lived up to company's expectations with around 2000 bookings since its launch. August also marked the first anniversary of the Fortuner in India, as well as reaching the milestone of sales of 10,000 units which they celebrated by introducing the Fortuner Anniversary Edition.
