Toyota-TMG to Take On Mercedes-AMG

Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG), the German-based motor-sport and automotive service provider brand is all set to become the motor-sport arm for Toyota to help it produce performance cars. Yoshiaki Kinoshita, President- TMG said in a statement that the Toyota Europe Motorsport facility based at Cologne, Germany will become an "AMG-Type company" to Toyota. He further said that this has been one of the things that are kept on high priority after TMG stopped Formula One.

The TMG facility has had a tough time since Toyota abandoned Formula One in 2009 and the impact is apparent, where once the staff size was 800, it has come down to 200. Kinoshita further said that TMG is also planning to work on Lexus vehicles, although nothing has been said which Lexus model they will be tweaking. And TMG has been reportedly working on an LS460 project that has a twin-turbo 4.6-litre V-8 engine. To sum up, it will be interesting to see the battle-royale between Toyota-TMG and Mercedes- AMG and whether Toyota will be able to overshadow AMG's firm grasp on performance cars.
