Volkswagen Beetle, the oldest and most popular car model of German car manufacturer Volkswagen, is receiving an extraordinary response from Indian customers as company has already received 300 bookings for the model though buyers have to wait for two to three months for the delivery. The Volkswagen Beetle model was launched in India in the last quarter of 2009. The Volkswagen Beetle model was also showcased in International Delhi auto show with company's upcoming flagship compact hatchback model Volkswagen Polo. Though it has been promoted as an economical car, it costs as high as Rs 20.45 (Delhi, ex-showroom). However, if company decides to produce it in India, it will become dearer by a good margin as for this segment of cars government of India has imposed a 100% import duty. Currently company imports this model in India from its Mexico plant.
The Volkswagen Beetle model has a 2.0L 4-cylinder (petrol) engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. To make this model safer the company has loaded it with all new generation features like ABS (Antilock Braking System) joined with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution). Besides this the Volkswagen Beetle model also has some performance boosting features like engine immobilizers. In addition to this 6 CD changer, heat insulated tinted glass, 15” alloy wheels also available in Volkswagen Beetle model.
Popular upcoming cars in India includes Ford Figo, Toyota Etios, Toyota Prius (launched but not delivered), Volkswagen Polo and Tata Aria.
