Volkswagen could make a small car for India on Up! Series

According to the rumors in the Global Auto Market, there could be an affordable and less expensive car on the roads of Brazil, India and China around next year or so, which would be based on Volkswagen Up! Series. This car is expected to cost around Rs. 3.83 Lakh or 6,000 Euros. As the launch of Volkswagen Lupo, which is a hatchback car of Up! Series approached near, rumors fill the air that this car will soon arrive in the country in 2012 accompanied by 800cc of petrol and 1.2 litre of diesel engine, which would be made by Volkswagen India.

As per the earlier reports, Volkswagen had cancelled the plans to trade rebadged Maruti cars in India and this new small car on Up! Series will come with Volkswagen’s name embedded in block letters at the back, which would be quite like in Volkswagen Vento and Volkswagen Polo. It is expected that Up! Series’ Lupo will make its debut in the month of September at Frankfurt Motor Show. There could be numerous models that one could expect in this motor show, and who knows, Volkswagen Up! Series small car is also introduced there.

The Up! Series Lupo was spied while it’s testing procedure was going on with Seat and Skoda around early this year. This car model is likely to be offered in 3 and 5 door forms. It is also expected that Up! might also introduce electric and hybrid cars very soon.

Speculations suggest that Volkswagen is developing a small version of Up! and its relative cars. The Volkswagen Up! is expected to be introduced at this Frankfurt show. However, it is just a rumor in the market yet. There has been no official word on this matter from Volkswagen till now.
