Volkswagen India Group bags 30 awards at the Auto Awards

Pune February 7, 2011: At the recent auto awards ceremonies held in the country, Volkswagen bagged a total of 30 awards. While the company's co-brands Skoda and Audi managed to get 8 and 4 awards respectively. Topping the charts with 30 awards, Volkswagen's hatchback, Volkswagen Polo won five awards, including two 'Premimum hatchback of the Year' awards and 2 ,'car of the Year' awards. Volkswagen Polo also won the 'Small Car of the Year' award. However, Volkswagen Polo 1.6 received the trophy for 'Most Fun to Drive Car'. Volkswagen Vento on the other hand won awards like ' Saloon car of the Year','Compact Sedan of the Year','Design of the Year','Automobile of the year','Mid Size car of the Year','Premium Compact Sedan of the Year' and 'Best Automotive Advertising campaign'. Adding to the list of the awards, Volkswagen Motorsport received two 'Motorsport Award of the Year' and 'Motorsport excellence Awards'. The list of awards Skoda Yeti bagged are as follows, two awards for the 'SUV of the year','Car of the Year','4x4 of the Year','Compact SUV of the Year','Integrated Campaign of the Year','Crossover MUV of the Year' and 'Best Design of the Year'.

Audi won the 'Best Quality' and 'Most Sporty' awards. Audi A4 TDI 3.0 TDI won the award for the 'Performance of the Year' and last but not the least Audi Q7 4.2 TDI was awarded the ' Variant of the Year'. Volkswagen Group Chief Representative India, Dr. John Chacko expressed his happiness over the achievement and said that it is extremely gratifying and hearting to receive such prestigious awards for the Group.

Director and Board Member, Sales and Marketing, Skoda Auto India, Thomas Kuehl after receiving the award for Skoda yeti said that it is an extreme pleasure for the company to receive such prestigious awards in such a short span of time after the launch of the car. He further added that the company is thinking on the lines of adding a new SUV segment in the Indian auto industry.

Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India stated that the new year has been amazing for Audi so far. He said that these awards give them a boost and going forward the company will come up with more luxury cars. He also mentioned that these awards clearly imply that Audi ranks high among the Indian Customers. He also said that this is clearly reflected in the luxury SUV segment with Audi Q5 and Audi Q7 and in the super sports car segment with Audi R8.
