Few days back, we brought you the spy pictures of Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TSI turbocharged hot hatch. The new 1.2 TSI is coming as a replacement for the 1.6 litre petrol version of the car. We earlier reported that the company will launch the new Polo 1.2 TSI turbocharged on 25th April. Now the VW Polo 1.2 litre TSI variant has been caught testing with a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox by one of the Team-BHPian. The 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged engine produces 105PS and 175Nm of top torque and will be named as Polo GT. It will be the most powerful hatch in the country.
The car is expected to be available with two transmission options - seven-speed dual clutch and a six-speed manual gearbox. The same transmission options is also available in the UK bound Polo. The car that has been caught during test rounds has dual tone interiors and also has an ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) button.
The reason behind the removal of Polo 1.6 litre was the higher excise duty, which made it very costly. But with 1.2 litre TSI turbocharged engine, it would enjoy the benefits of lower excise duty on smaller engine, so it should be priced lesser than the earlier version.
The company claims the 1.2 TSI turbo model to accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 9.7 seconds and attains a top speed of 190kmph. This clearly indicating that it will be one of the swiftest hatches available in India. The new Polo 1.2 TSI turbocharged will compete against Skoda Fabia and the Hyundai i20 sport. It is expected that Volkswagen will use this power-mill on newer versions of the Vento, Fabia and Rapid.
