Volkswagen’s popular hatchback, the Polo, made its debut at the Indian Auto Expo 2016 in an all new avatar. Dubbed as the Polo GTI, this version of the car is a three door hatchback and has been spied on the country’s road a few times. The German manufacturer plans to bring the vehicle into India by the end of this year. Price could easily over Rs. 17 lac. The GTI will forge a class of its own, courtesy to this high price.
Speaking of the looks, it's a no-nonsense hot-hatch, with two doors, instead of the four as seen in the standard Polo,or the Polo GT.The front gets a red underline on the grill which dives into the headlamps, on either side. The lower part of the bumper gets a subtle splitter that shows its intent. Moving towards the side, the long single door gives it an understated, yet elegant look. One can also notice the diamond cut alloys along with a lowered stance, as compared to the standard Polo GT. The red brake calipers are easily noticed, as they silently peek through gaps between the spokes, both front and back. Then there are the minimalistic side skirts which continue into a diffuser sort of half-bumper on the back of the car. The rear is as clean as that of the standard car, but the GTI badge is sufficient to make a difference.
Power comes from a 1.8 TFSi petrol motor that will produce as good as 192 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. All of this will be channeled to the front wheel via a 7-Speed DSG automatic.
On the inside, the car carries that classic upholstery - from the early days of Polo (which was available in European markets) as well as leather and fabric stitched together to give that appeal. The central console gets a 6.5-inch infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
