Volkswagen to launch newer models soon

VW India is likely to invest 100 million Euros approximately in excess of INR 800 crores to launch new models and to increase the percentage of localization at its Indian manufacturing facilities. India is one of the growing market when it comes to auto sector. In India, VW has five brands, namely, Skoda, Audi, Volkswagen and the super car brands like Porsche and Lamborghini. Mahesh Kodumudi, President and Managing Director at VW India commented, "At present, an investment of approximately 100 million Euros is in the decision process for new models and for further localisation of parts and components.”

This year Volkswagen will launch its updated Polo premium hatch and Vento sedan around the festive season. The company already revealed the updated Polo at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show this year. Polo receives a mild facelift, which is largely limited to the headlights and front bumper. The face-lifted car includes restyled headlamp cluster with integrated Day-Time-Running-LEDs, a revamped bumper and new colors. At the rear, you get subtle changes to the tail lamps and reflectors on bumper. On the inside, the Polo gets upgraded dash, new shades and equipment level; premium quotient of the vehicle has certainly increased compared to the current one. The Polo gets silver and black dash layout with new large touchscreen infotainment system, newer HVAC controls and restyled steering wheel. As Vento is based on the Polo expect similar changes to the sedan as well.

The company is also planning to launch a compact sedan based on Vento; VW is in talks with an Indian designing firm for the same. The compact sedan will compete with entry level sub-4m sedans like Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire and upcoming vehicles in this category, namely, Tata Bolt, Ford Figo compact sedan. "Volkswagen is currently considering various options, including a compact sedan specially designed for India, a compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a compact hatchback." Kodumudi added.

The company also showcased Taigun compact SUV crossover at the Expo and they are planning to launch it soon as the segment is the most popular in the country at present. About the compact hatch, the company could launch its famous UP! Micro hatch to rob the A-segment leading by Wagon R and Hyundai i10. The company will also bring the nex-gen Passat, the vehicle is currently on tests overseas. Speaking about Passat he said, "Along with these, we are also considering the re-introduction of the new generation Passat as soon as possible."

Audi A3 - Front

Apart from VW, Skoda and Audi are also rolling high this year. Audi will bring its most anticipated product the A3 sedan that it showcased at the Auto Show this year while Skoda will bring the updated Rapid sedan, Yeti, alongwith the expected nex-gen Fabia. They recently updated the Superb.
