After a gap of no less than three seasons, Volkswagen Motorsport is set to return to the Madras Motor Race Track with the second and third rounds of the 2016 Vento Cup, informed a press release. Flagged off at the Kari Motor Speedway last month, the Cup will conclude with its fourth and final round at the Buddh International Circuit later this year.
The action-packed first round set the Coimbatore tracks on fire with Ishaan Dodhiwala and Karminder Pal Singh (108 points) emerging at the top of the pile. Keith Desouza and Aditya Pawar tied for the second position with 74 points.
Interestingly though, almost all of these drivers will be making their racing debuts on the MMRT that has served as the breeding ground for the likes of Narain Karthikeyan. On this 3.71 km-long circuit, which is 11m wide and has 12 corners, these men will be joined by two guest racers from Polo Cup China.
VW Motorsport India head Sirish Vissa informed that they have performed some pre-season tests to determine the full potential of the race machine at the MMRT. He added, “With a clean start to the season and a new track for the racers it is going to be a treat for the viewers to experience some raw motor sporting action with driving skills at its core. The tie at top will further add excitement to the races.”
