It’s the sleeker-looking sibling to the fairly popular XC40 recharge with the same features but a higher driving range
The Volvo C40 Recharge is the newest offering from the Swedish carmaker in India. It has been revealed and will go on sale in August. The bookings will commence once the prices are in and the deliveries are slated to begin from September.
It is the second pure-electric model in the lineup after its mechanical twin, the XC40 Recharge. The C40 is the coupe-styled version of the XC40, tapping into the growing popularity of the sleeker SUV design.
Powertrain details
The C40 Recharge uses an updated 78kWh battery pack compared to the XC40 Recharge with increased efficiency for more range. Combined with the sleeker aerodynamic profile, it has a slightly higher WLTP-claimed range of 530km. It too features the sporty dual-motor AWD setup producing 408PS and 660Nm. The C40 Recharge can sprint from 0-100kmph in 4.7 seconds.
It also supports 150kW fast charging which can top the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 27 minutes.
Familiar cabin
Volvo has not made any model-specific changes to the C40 Recharge. It gets the same 9-inch vertically-oriented infotainment touchscreen in the centre of the dash and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. The fully-loaded trim comes with electrically adjustable front seats (with heated and cooling function), dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.
As one of the first brands to offer Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) in India, the C40 Recharge also comes equipped with features like collision avoidance and mitigation, lane keeping aid, post impact braking, driver alert and run-off mitigation. Other safety bits include seven airbags and a 360-degree camera.
Rivals
The Volvo C40 Recharge is expected to be priced an upwards of Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). It has no direct rivals for the time being but takes on similar EV offerings such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, BMW i4 and it’s own sibling, the XC40 Recharge.
