The Swedish auto-maker Volvo is known for the powerful engines its cars are housed with. To maintain this name, Volvo has recently announced that the company would be upgrading the engines of the cars that are scheduled for launch in 2013. The upgraded engine is the newfangled 5-cylinder diesel engine that will make its first appearance next year. The models receiving this neoteric engine are the 2013 Volvo S60 and S80 sedans and the Volvo V60 and V70 estates.

The engine is a 2.0 liter 5-cylinder oil burner capable of driving a peak power of 140 BHP and a peak torque of 350 Nm. Word is, this new engine is an under-powered version of the current diesel engine that Volvo is using to power its cars in India. A similar 5-cylinder diesel engine is used in the Volvo S60 D3, this engine is capable of pumping out a power of 163 BHP and 50 Nm more torque than the forthcoming diesel engine.
