VW intends to sell 300 units of Volkswagen Beetle in India

Volkswagen (VW) intends to sell 300 units of its premium small car, Volkswagen Beetle, in India next year. The company has received around 170 bookings for the Volkswagen Beetle. Seeing the response it hopes to sell 300 units of the car in 2010. The super-premium car was launched recently in India. It is priced at Rs 20.90 lakh as it attracts 104 per cent import duty. The small car is imported as a completely built unit from Volkswagen's Mexico plant. The Volkswagen Beetle comes loaded with a 2.0 litre petrol engine with six-speed automatic transmission. The company also expects that the sexy small car will help them to build brand and popularize the brand. A dealer based in Ahmedabad told that one batch of Volkswagen Beetles has landed and second is awaited that is to come in a few days in India. 40 cars are sent in a single shipment. Volkswagen is also geared up to launch its another new car-Volkswagen Polo in India along with Ford Figo.
