As per Volkswagen, the Vento’s new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 6-speed AT is capable of returning 16.35kmpl. Let’s put that to test, shall we?

The Volkswagen Vento BS6 was launched in March 2020 as a petrol-only offering. It is offered with a new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (same as the higher variants of the Polo) that comes paired to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter (new). Volkswagen has axed the 1.2-litre TSI and 1.6-litre MPI petrol engines that were offered earlier and discontinued the 7-speed DSG gearbox as well. We managed to run our fuel efficiency test with this 1.0-litre turbo-petrol-equipped Vento with the 6-speed AT and here are our findings:

    Engine

    1.0-litre Turbo-petrol

    Power

    110PS

    Torque

    175Nm

    Transmission

    6-speed AT

    Claimed fuel efficiency

    16.35kmpl

    Tested fuel efficiency (City)

    12.45kmpl

    Tested fuel efficiency (Highway)

    16.52kmpl

As per our test, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol equipped Vento with the 6-speed AT fell short by almost 4kmpl compared to the claimed figure, but it bettered that by a small margin on the highway.

Now, let’s see how the VW sedan performed in varying driving conditions:

    Mileage

    City:Highway (50:50)

    City:Highway (25:75)

    City:Highway (75:25)

    14.19kmpl

    15.27kmpl

    13.26kmpl

For those using the sedan majorly in the city, expect it to deliver a mileage of around 13kmpl. However, if you use the Vento AT mainly on wide stretches of roads and highways, the fuel efficiency should go up by 2kmpl. In case your travel is equally split between the city and highway, expect the VW sedan to deliver a mileage of around 14kmpl.

It is important to note that fuel efficiency depends on a combination of driving conditions, the car’s condition as well as your driving style, so your experience may vary from ours.
