Both EVs offer similarly sized battery packs but one of them drains much faster than the other
We took the two entry-level electric cars in India: the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3, and put them to a crucial test. Seated inside both of them, individually but in similar weather conditions, turned on the air conditioning, set the blower speed to the maximum and waited to see which one of them loses more charge over 30 minutes. Here are our findings:

We started the AC test in the Tiago EV with the car at 64 percent battery, indicating 140 km of range. During the test, we did not use any other feature that could drain its battery. After 30 minutes, the charge dropped by 7 percent and the range by 12 km.

The Tata electric hatchback comes with two battery pack options: 19.2kWh and 24kWh. Both these batteries are paired with an electric motor that generates 61PS/110Nm for the smaller one and 75PS/114Nm for the bigger one and gets claimed ranges of 250km and 315km, respectively. For our test, we took the Tiago EV with the bigger battery pack.

We performed the same test on the Citroen eC3 and got a very different result. In the same time period, the eC3 only lost 2.6 percent of charge and it dropped from 56.6 to 54 percent. This could be due to the fact that the eC3 comes with a slightly bigger battery pack than the Tiago EV. We also experienced that the C3’s air conditioning compressor would cut off from time to time, requiring us to prompt it back into action during the test.

It gets a 29.2kWh battery pack with an electric motor that churns our 57PS and 143Nm. With this setup, the eC3 claims a range of 320km, which is also slightly higher than that of the Tiago EV.
