Ford Mondeo; ring any bells? Ford Mondeo was in India in the 1990s but was phased out in 2006. It was one of the most celebrated cars in India, loved by the technophiles. Once again Ford is expected to bring in this sedan to India. Ford has been planning to launch their new mid-size offerings all across the world. Under this strategy, Ford is taking the new Fusion to North America and Mondeo to Europe. Rest of the world would see similar launches as well, but currently no clarity about which vehicle is going to launch in which part of the world. At the Detroit Show in January where they presented the new Fusion, they had just mentioned that they would drive in the Ford Mondeo in Europe in 2013. Currently a few spy pictures were also revealed, showing a slightly cloaked model doing test runs on the European streets.

Though no confirmed details have been made official, as rumor has it, the new Mondeo will have slight tweaks. It is being said that the new Mondeo will have a suspension which has been re-tuned to suit the European streets and also that the diesel mill will be offered in several options and petrol variant will be offered with two engine trims, 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost. The diesel however will be offered in 4-cylinder TDCI with various capacities, 1.6-litres, 2.0-litres and 2.2-litres. There are still a lot of doubts regarding the hybrid and the plug-in hybrid versions of the car.

Whatever little has been revealed or has been digged out by the auto enthusiasts showthat the sedan will have a lot of active safety features for the passengers. To reiterate the fact, Mondeo will feature an inflatable rear seatbelt. The difference between this and a normal seatbelt is that an inflatable seat belt has elements of an airbag along with a normal seatbelt. This helps further reduce injuries for the passengers seated at the rear. This technology from Ford will make its debut with the new Mondeo in Europe.

Apart from this, several updates are awaited from Ford Group; more on these coming soon, Stay Put...!

For now, there is just a hope that Mondeo sees its way back to India soon. The car fanatics and the techies are waiting for it…
