Volvo India has been one of the least active foreign auto makers in the Indian auto market. Perhaps it is the low brand value in India, or the fact that Volvo lacks brand awareness here. Whatever the case, most people are simply not aware that buying a Volvo is an option in the Indian market. That is a sad fact especially considering that Volvo UK, following their world premiere at the Paris Motor Show, have confirmed the pricing and specification for the latest additions to the Volvo V40 line-up, the R-Design range and the Cross Country models.

The UK prices for the V40 Cross Country start at Rs. 19.19 lakh for the 113bhp (115PS) front wheel drive and diesel-powered D2 SE going up to Rs. 28.78 lakh for the 251bhp (254PS) T5 Geartronic Cross Country Lux Nav with All-Wheel Drive. Base model features include autofolding door mirrors with ground lights and black mirror covers, 16-inch alloy wheels, rain sensor, tread plates and silver roof rails as standard options. The top-end variants offer a little extra in the form of leather-faced upholstery, active bending xenon headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED day-running lights, rear reading and theatre lighting.

The V40 R-Design model features a new styling package that contains a set of re-desgined bumpers, rear diffuser, 17-inch wheels, silver matt door mirrors, and unique upholstery among others. Similar to the V40 Cross Country model, the R-Design also offers the ‘Lux’ version of the same that adds to the base features by adding leather-faced R-Design embossed seats, active bending xenon headlights with cleaning system, rain sensor, cruise control, keyless start and rear theatre lighting. Pricing for the R-Design starts at Rs. 18.94 lakh for the D2 going up to Rs. 26.66 lakh for the petrol powered R-Design Lux Nav.

So is Volvo India going to bring the two V40 models to us or not? It probably will. That’s not the big question. The big question is- Will it sell? Stay tuned to find the answer to this question. Cheers!
