For many, 'feminism' is an overrated term and there has been several definitions coined for this one word. Well, its true that the perspective to learn more about feminism may vary from person to person, but there's no denying to the core feelings behind every individual definition. There are many females around who are doing their bit to make the world realise their true potential and their approach that nothing can be termed as impossible. We bring to you the views of one such influencing figure, a lady with grit, unbeatable by any sort of challenge, yes words fall less to describe her- Ms. Deepa Malik, the Arjuna Awardee' 2012 , and a true source of inspiration for women in India. The story just doesn't ends here, she has got many accolades like 'True Grit award' in 2009 for her performance at Raid De Himalaya motor sport event, and desert storm rally that left many of us awed seeing her racing like a normal racer. Well, this for those who aren't aware about her, Ms. Deepa Malik is a paraplegic patient, yet she overcame all her challenges, and evolved as a self-reliant, independent and one who embraces 'freedom' in her own way.

As 8th March is marked as an International Women's Day, we got an opportunity to interact with Ms. Deepa on this occassion, and learnt her way of celebrating the day. Like many other women, she too believes that the day should not be celebrated on just 8th of March, but the objective behind this day should have a longer impact on the society. We had an interesting interaction with her, and got many answers to some of the weird questions or perceptions, to be precise regarding females which are baseless, yet prevailing in the Indian society. As she finds her peace and love with motoring field, we raised certain questions pertaining in this field and the female connection to it. When asked on girls being considered to be bad drivers in general, she said, “ The number of male drivers are more, that supports the fact that there are less female drivers, and so the faith levels comes down as people are not used to see female counter-part riding a bike or say a car”. She also added saying that, “ Females are not given enough opportunity, which is certainly an obstruction to the growth levels which we are expected nowadays.”

The next question was on inequality seen in the regions where less literate men are populating, and she said, “ For any inequality, the fact that there is an inequality, there is less of education and more of ignorance. Moreover, we are infected with age-old myths and social taboos, which deprive you of progress.” Further changes in the society are being seen with females coming up and asking for their rights, and many subjects are being discussed pertaining to deficiency called- 'Inequality'. She also emphasized saying, “ She also emphasized saying, “Enough of planning, it's high time to execute now!!”
