Enjoy 2013-2015 Petrol LS 7 Seater Review
General Motors India, the Indian arm of the famous auto-giant from the United States, made their first venture into the immensely popular MPV segment of the Indian auto-market with Chevrolet Enjoy. One of the biggest success stories that the American manufacturer has ever penned down on the Chinese soil, the Enjoy is the third offering of the company in India to be shared with its Chinese portfolio after Sail and Sail U-VA. With a simple yet elegant attire on the outside, which gets complemented by a classy Beige look on the inside, this MPV excels in areas like suspension system, handling, comfort, convenience and spaciousness.
Engines sitting under its hood have been made available in two different trims - a 1.4-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel mill. In terms of equipment and other features, there are three different models - LS, LT and LTZ - available on each fuel option, with LS being the base-end variant. On both fuel lineups, it is only the LS model that offers the option of 8-seater capacity along with the 7-seater configuration, the remaining models providing the solitary option of a 7-seater plan. Of all the models that feature on the Enjoy range, Chevrolet Enjoy Petrol LS 7 Seater is the basic variant of the car’s petrol series that comes with a seating capacity of seven.
Exteriors:
Chevrolet Enjoy Petrol LS 7 Seater, just like all the other variants of the MPV from America, dons a pretty simple and sober outfit. Beginning with the front fascia, the car gets a short sloping nose that ends in a large windscreen on one side and a stylish 3D chrome grille with the Golden Bowtie on the other. Flanking the front grille are headlamps that get underlined by a neatly-carved body-toned front bumper . The side view of the Enjoy is also quite plain and takes a distinctly boxy form as we move towards the rear end. Plus, the 14-inch wheels on which this wagon sits seem to be a bit too small considering the massive structure that they are supposed to support. In fact, the only styling details in the car that really seem to stand out when viewed from this angle are a soft character line that runs from the headlamp at the front to the tail-lamp at the rear and a skillfully-carved crease running parallel to it, joining the front and rear wheel arches. As for the rear profile, besides character lines from the sides extending over it, the rear end of Chevrolet Enjoy Petrol LS 7 Seater also has a smartly-designed tailgate blending smoothly with a neatly-cut lip spoiler and a nice set of vertical tail-lamps to flaunt.
Interiors:
Being built on a monocoque chassis and having a structure that features overall dimensions of 4305 x 1680 x 1750mm (l x w x h) along with a wheelbase measuring 2720mm in length together allow Chevrolet Enjoy to pack up a considerably large and roomy passenger cabin. The boot area also has a considerably large storage capacity of 195-litres that can be extended further to 630-litres by double folding the third row of seats. Besides ample of space, the fabric-jacketed plush seats of Chevrolet Enjoy also provides excellent comfort and perfect support to the backs and thighs of their occupants. In order to impart a pleasant and airy feel to the seating area, an elegant dual-tone Beige-and-Black theme has been selected for the interiors with the seats getting coated in Beige and parts like the dashboard and door panels getting twin-tones. While proper seat heights in the Enjoy ensure that every occupant of gets good exterior visibility, presence of independent AC vents for rear passengers further adds to the quality of the ride. The only areas where the MPV loses points are those of equipment and material quality. Hard plastics, not-so-neat stitching of seat fabric, and lack of features like climate control, Bluetooth and music system are some factors that might come as a disappointment for some buyers.
Engine:
This trim has been fitted with a 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder, 16-valve, DOHC, MPFI, SMARTECH petrol engine that is capable of churning out 102.6bhp at 6000rpm along with a maximum torque of 131Nm at 4400rpm. Driven by this well-engineered mill, this MPV can go from 0-100kmph in 14.8 seconds, while the top speed that it can attain is around 175kmph. To work in synchronization with the 1399cc petrol mill, a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox has been put to work, which, besides facilitating a light and easy gear-shift-action, accounts for a decent fuel-economy of 13.7kmpl for this MPV.
Braking and Handling:
With disc brakes working at the front and drum brakes at the rear end, this trim puts together a pretty effective braking system that could be relied upon. The suspension system of this MPV has been integrated with McPherson Struts for the front end and Multi-link Coil Springs for the rear , proves to be extremely soft and hence absorbs the bumps in the road pretty easily and efficiently.
Comfort Features:
The Chevrolet Enjoy Petrol LS 7 Seater is the base-end model belonging to the petrol line-up of the car, which translates into a smaller equipment bank in comparison to the other higher level models. Despite that, the comfort and convenience features that are shared by all the variants of the Enjoy equally, including the basic LS model, encompass the likes of power steering, front and rear power windows , central door locking mechanism, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) unit with independent rear AC vents, tinted glasses, day and night internal RVM, tilt rear quarter windows, adjustable armrests on second row seats, height adjustable headrests for the front and second row seats, remote fuel filler release and headlight levelling device.
Safety Features:
Having been positioned at the very bottom of the petrol lineup for the MPV, Chevrolet Enjoy Petrol LS 7 Seater does not get to pack all the advanced and cutting edge safety tools and technologies that the models placed towards the higher ends of the range feature. However, whatever basic safety measures that have been included in this particular model also prove to be quite efficient at their job and help ensure fairly decent levels of safety for the passengers. Equipped with features like Safe Cage body structure, side impact beams in front and rear doors , 3-point ELR front seatbelts with driver seatbelt reminder, door ajar warning lamp, child-protection rear door locks, centrally located high-mount stop lamp and dual horn, this trim makes every drive remarkably safe and sound for its riders.
Pros: Excellent comfort and spacious cabin, decent looks.
Cons: Lack of advanced safety and comfort features, and unimpressive fit and finish.
