Sail Hatchback 2012-2013 LS ABS Review
Overall
During the 11th Auto Expo, which was organized in the month January this year in New Delhi, GM India gladly showcased its famous Sail twins, comprising of Chevrolet Sail UVA hatchback and Chevrolet Sail sedan. Now, the firm has finally rolled out the Sail UVA hatchback into the Indian car market. This one turned out to be quite impressive and up to the market. The company has put in a lot of efforts and developed the Sail hatchback under keen surveillance. The car came into the market with a bang and was straightway put in direct competition with cars like Hyundai i20, Toyota Etios Liva, Maruti Swift, Ford Figo and Tata Indigo eCS. Chevrolet sail UVA price has been kept very competitive thereby making it a strong contender in the hatchback segment. The Chevrolet Sail UVA has been launched in both diesel and petrol variants. The Chevrolet Sail UVA diesel comes with a 1.3 litre of MultiJet diesel engine borrowed from Fiat that is not only powerful but is also very fuel efficient. What makes the engine further more interesting is the coupling done with the five speed manual transmission, which takes the performance of the car to a much higher place than expected. On the outside, the Chevrolet Sail UVA Diesel LS ABS is quite alluring and attractive. The front façade is inspired heavily from the Chevy’s Cruze sedan, but with the unique sporty touch in terms of chrome finish and huge headlamps, the car gets its own character. The wide front grille along with signature bowtie of Chevy is also present on the front side of Sail UVA hatch. On the other hand, the rear has been enhanced by the presence of chic taillights and smart high mounted stop lamp. Coming to the interiors, the car has very airy, spacious, fresh and elegant cabin space. This one is also loaded with all kinds of comfort features such as power tilt steering wheel, power windows, AC minus the climate control, remote fuel lid and boot opener and so on. Alternatively, the safety department of this one isn’t disappointing at all, as it comes with ABS, EBD, brake assist, dual SRS airbags and more.
Appearance
The exteriors of the 2012 Chevrolet Sail UVA Diesel LS ABS are striking and it without a doubt displays the efforts been put in by the corporation. The exteriors of this one are an ideal combination of sportiness and classiness. The looks here are totally better than that of the old Aveo model by GM India. Conversely, few things such as Chevy bowtie and wide front grille remain invariable as other Chevrolet cars. The car have frontage, which is sharing its DNA from Cruze sedan, but the athletic touches here and there make it emerge out more dissimilar and exclusive. The pair of headlamps in the front is likable and has been coupled with satisfactorily designed bumper. The fog lights and air vents are also positioned adequately. The side profile is stirring and sports body colored door handles, body colored ORVMs and bold wheel arches fitted with alloy wheels. The electric sunroof is one of the major highlighting features on the exteriors. Coming to the rear part, the tail lights are chic and smart and elegance is further added by the rear spoiler and high mounted stop lamp.
Interiors
The new Chevrolet Sail UVA Diesel LS ABS is endowed with airy, fresh, vivid and roomy interiors. The copious legroom and headroom for all passengers is the best part here. Another good thing in UVA Diesel is the dashboard, which is completed with high quality material together with a bit of chrome inserts in front cabin. This provides the interior with finer and posh looks. The grey-beige color themed upholstery adds on more sophisticated and openness to the cabin space. If we compare the interiors of UVA Sail diesel with Chevrolet Beat interiors, Sail UVA is a clear winner and manages to steal the show.
Comfort Features
The comfort level in the new Chevrolet Sail UVA Diesel LS ABS is impressive. The company has taken care of the occupants and blessed the hatchback with many comfort traits, which would definitely make the journey in Sail quite pleasant. The car comes fitted with a 2-DIN audio system, which has radio, CD and Mp3 player along with Aux-in and USB interface. The air conditioning is efficient, but it doesn’t have climate control. The vast boot storage space for luggage is just right. Also, there is sufficient storage for wallet, coins and other random accessories. The power steering has tilt adjustable but doesn’t have audio controls mounted on it. The instrumental cluster is illuminated and the large sized speedometer display digital readouts.
Engine and Performance
General Motors India has installed Chevrolet Sail UVA Diesel LS ABS with a very popular 1.3 litre of diesel engine that has been tuned to generate peak power of 78PS @ 4000rpm along with producing maximum torque of 205Nm @ 1750rpm. The five-speed manual gearbox is mated with this 1248cc makes the car performance better and impressive as compared to the old Aveo car by GM India. The mileage and fuel efficiency of this one is up-to-the mark as well. On the city roads, the car manages to deliver 17kmpl of mileage, while on the highways, the car gives out fuel economy of 22.1kmpl. When accelerated, Sail UVA catches up a top speed of 150kmph and touches the 100kmph speed mark in 16 seconds, which is quite decent.
Braking and Handling
The brake system of Chevrolet Sail UVA Diesel LS ABS is strapping and very brawny. The front wheels have the ventilated disc brakes, while the rear ones sport drum brakes. This brake system is further improved with anti lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution system and brake assist. The suspension system comprising of McPherson Strut with Coil Spring and Stabilizer bar for the front and Semi-independent with Coil Spring for the rear makes the handling smooth and stable. The power tilt adjusting steering wheel further enhances the overall handling of the car.
Safety Features
The safety features of Chevrolet Sail UVA Diesel LS ABS are delightful and comprise of numerous safety features, which have become the essentials these days. The car has Anti Lock braking system with Electronic brake force distribution system and brake assist. The dual SRS airbags safeguards the driver and front co-passenger during an accident. The 3-point ELR seat belts are there for all passengers, with front fog lamps, child safety door locks, door open warning alarm and engine immobilizer.
